These may not be the easiest of times what with the interest rates, petrol prices and general inflation still South Africa today enjoys a high level of political and economic stability. There is still lots of international investment initiatives taking place within our country especially in the tourism sector. And opportunities for the future are optimistically bright as we work towards the 2010 World Cup Soccer Tournament.

South Africa is without a doubt one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist destinations and offers many opportunities for entrepreneurs. If only we could see such a clear path for ourselves The most obvious opportunities are is the small scale accommodation, the B&Bs, the guest houses and the self catering cottages. And this is what my newsletters are about. How to successfully market your establishment or upgrade your service levels and a few other tips I noticed along the way.

The easy part to establishing a B&B is fitting it to your standard and taste. But its in acquiring the guests where many smaller places run into trouble. The challenge, of course, is for individual establishments not to get lost in the general clutter that confronts both local and foreign tourists when planning a trip here. This is particularly true for guest houses and B&Bs run by entrepreneurs who can’t match the advertising and promotional budgets of the big hotel chains. The good news is that there are lots of easy ways to promote a small establishment – one just has to keep close to the needs of the market and be creative.
